18-year-old Liam Kent, now known as Lily Madigan who is a student of St. Simon Stock Catholic school in Maidstone decided to return to school after announcing his gender change via popular social media (Facebook).
He decided to wear the recommended female uniform as required of all female student, but on getting to school, he was sent home by the principal of the school, Brendan Wall, who told him to go back to wearing the mandatory male uniform or find another school.
Even though a student-driven petition , which got over a hundred approvals demanded that the school allow trans student wear the uniform they wish to wear, It was rejected by Principal Wall.
During the summer vacation,Liam Kent/Lily Madigan decided to get a lawyer, and the case was taken by the firm as a pro-bono case, as it was a simple case of discrimination against her. The firm sent the school a letter, in which was stated all the laws that the school was breaking, and also how Lily should be treated from then on. Principal Wall later apologized to Lily, and she was allowed to return to school. She hopes to be a fashion designer someday.
